New members welcome! This is a great beginner hike for an introduction to hiking with The Mountaineers. Join us to shake the winter kinks out of your joints, check out new boots or see how your new pack works on the trail. We'll hike through the Park to eat our lunch by Fort Nisqually. Lots of great views on this trip and we'll take time to enjoy them. Everyone should carry rain gear (jacket and pants) and wear appropriate clothing - NO COTTON clothing or sneakers. Everyone should carry the Ten Essentials - we'll have show-and-tell at lunch to see the different permutations the Ten E can take. If some of the 10 are eluding you, bring the 6 or 8 you have. We'll hike as a group, at a slow pace, doing a loop around Pt. Defiance Park, about 5 miles and 300' of elevation gain. The map can be downloaded at http://www.metroparkstacoma.org/page.php?id=239. Rain does not cancel. When sign up closes leader will email meeting location, carpool suggestions, and other last minute information. Contact leader with any questions.
