Day Hike - North Fork Skokomish River to Camp Pleasant

Fall hike in the forest. Expect wet leaves, mud, mushrooms, lots of running water and other such delights.

  • Moderate/Strenuous
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 9.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,000 ft
  • Pace: 2.0 mph on average (faster on the downhill and flat, slightly less on steep uphill)

Microspikes (or similar) are REQUIRED for this hike for safety reasons.

Shoulder season hike in old growth forest. Shoulder season hiking requires carrying additional gear as the weather can be considerably colder and wetter. Time to dig out the gaiters,  microspikes and warm gloves and hats. This is a NO COTTON hike.  If you are thinking of signing up for this trip, please be comfortable hiking in rain, mud, some light snow and colder weather, which are always a possibility at this time of year.

This route is mostly flat overall and passes through magnificent old growth forest.

Expectations for trip participants:

1. Be able to keep up a 2.0mph pace overall. Flat parts we may hike a bit faster, uphill parts a bit slower.

2. Practice Leave No Trace principles.

3. Be ok with inclement weather. An atmospheric river or low-elevation snowstorm are about all that will cancel this hike.

Goals:

1. Be safe.

2. Have fun.

3. Get in some good forest bathing.

0800 at Staircase. Directions will be provided.
