Day Hike - North Beacon Hill

Explore North Beacon Hill on a morning urban walk looping north to the site of a failed attempt to build a canal from Lk Washington to Elliott Bay. We'll talk about the different ethnic groups that have called this neighborhood home. This outing is a partnership with Mountaineers fundraising staff.

Meet shortly before 9am, ready to walk, at the parking area  just west of the Pac Med building -- Dr Jose Rizal Park, 1007 12th Avenue S.  Rest rooms are available.

COVID precautions call for all walkers vaccinated with masking optional.

This outing is a joint venture of Seattle Hiking/Urban Walks (plan and lead the walk) and The Mountaineers Development Office (staff manage the roster and assist on the walk). This outing has been created as a way for staff to engage with donors and support senior members in enrolling in online activities. Please contact staff member Bri Vanderlinden to join as she is managing an off-line waiting list for this activity. (

This mildly up-and-down walk is a slight variation on Walk #14  in David Williams' 2017 Seattle Walks, University of Washing Press.  We'll go around 4.0 miles including a dash over (above) I-90 (and back) on Dr. Jose Rizal   Bridge. Metro Transit Bus Routes abound in the city.

Our route takes us through one of the more ethnically and geographically isolated parts of the city.  And you'll see that the diversity mix continues to change as properties change hands.

We'll touch base with early European settlers and check out several buildings (mostly from outside) that maintain a link to the 20th Century.

Dress for the weather and the day.  Reflective or brighter clothing is advised.
