LEADER'S UPDATE 06/14/2005: Scouted hike on Saturday 06/11/2005. Revised plan is to hike partial loop counter-clockwise as an out-and-back, starting from trailhead across SR-410 from Tipsoo Lake (i.e., to avoid steep snow slopes on the north side of Naches Peak). There is some wet snow at the beginning of this trailhead (some uphill), so gaiters and trekking/ski poles are recommended. I will also be monitoring Mt Rainier NP weather forecasts ( closely for the next few days due to conflicting forecasts (some are predicting thundershowers and/or snow showers for Saturday). PLEASE CONTACT ME BY PHONE ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT, IF POSSIBLE, FOR FURTHER UPDATES (206-932-0857 home, 206-979-0735 cell). June 18, Sat. - NEW MEMBERS SPECIAL -- Naches Peak Loop (E) (GT Mt Rainier E/Bumping Lk), 5 mi, 700’ gain. Leisurely pace. An easy, leisurely paced hike with views of Mount Rainier, Dewey Lakes, and with some luck, wildflowers and critters. An excellent intro to hiking in the Mt. Rainier National Park vicinity. If snow lingers, consider bringing ski poles or trekking poles. Meet 9:30 a.m. near restrooms at Tipsoo Lake parking area off SR-410. Hikers encouraged to contact leader (especially if you're new to hiking, the Pacific Northwest, or The Mountaineers). 2 hrs. Jon Shields (; cell phone 206-979-0735). (s6/8-6/16) MR
