7:00 AM at Poulsbo Church of the Nazarene
Snowshoes recommended. 8.4 mi loop, 3500' gain. This is the second hike/snowshoe in the alpinist conditioning series. From Big Creek Campground (elevation 980'), take Olympic National Forest Trail 827.1 (Big Creek Loop) to Olympic National Trail 827.2 (to Branch Creek 1.75 miles and 1000' gain). Follow 827.2 trail to the Lower Mt. Ellinor Trail 1.3 miles later at 2600' elevation). The junction with the winter climbing route to the Mt. Ellinor summit is 2.5 miles further with an elevation of 4500'. This is the old historic climbing route up to Mt Ellinor! Big Creek portion of trail is part of a four mile loop around Big Creek Basin. Traveling up to Branch Creek one arrives at the Lower Mt. Ellinor Trail. Please sign up via the internet.
