Have you ever planned to hike Mt. Si but never had carriage to try that? This is your perfect chance to finally make your dream come true. In the next 2 weeks (on Tuesdays and Thursdays evening) I am planning to lead 4 after hours hikes around North Bend area by slowly increasing intensity (distance, elevation gain and steepness):
1) Little Si - around the loop (5.6 miles; 2,200 ft. elevation gain OR 7.2 miles 2,800 ft. elevation gain). We will have decision point on the way back if we want to go around the loop again or straight back to the trailhead.
2) Mt. Si – new trail (8 miles; 3,300 ft. elevation gain
3) Mt. Si – old trail (7 miles; 3,500 ft. elevation gain). Less distance but steeper hike.
4) Mailbox (Garcia) Peak (7 miles; 4,000 ft. elevation gain). This is one of the steepest hike trails in Washington and my graduation hike for super strong hikers. :-) The focus will be on practicing rest steps and proper breathing which will get you much further and much higher even if you are not in very good shape. The pace will be moderate with short frequent breaks which will allow you to properly manage and preserve your energy until you reach your destination. The objective will be to slowly increase your conditioning and confidence level and prepare you for new hiking season. After completion of all these hikes you won’t get any certificate (sorry about that) but you should be able to hike almost any hike in Washington. The clubhouse will not arrange carpooling so we will need to arrange it at the meeting place. Let me know by e-mail if you need carpooling to the meeting place. Please check your headlights at home and bring extra batteries since there is possibility that we will come back in dark. Directions from Seattle, Bellevue on I-90 E:
1) Take exit 15 for WA-900/17th Ave NW (0.2 mi
2) Keep right at the fork to continue toward 17th Ave NW/WA-900 and merge onto 17th Ave NW/WA-900 (0.3 mi)
3) Turn left at NW Gilman Blvd. Destination will be on the left (0.2 mi)
