Day Hike - Mount Si Main Trail

Early Spring conditioning hike up Mount Si - 8-mile round trip day hike with 3,200 feet of elevation gain. This is a popular trail in the foothills that offers a good workout and views of Puget Sound and the Upper Snoqualmie Valley. Leader Permission required; preference given to Foothills Scrambling students until Fri 03/19 @ 5 pm.

Meet at 6:50 am at the Mount Si "main" Trailhead ready to hike - will do introductions, outline route and trail conditions, and discuss group goals. Plan to be hiking at 7:00 am.

Take Exit 32 off of I-90 and turn left (north) onto 436th Ave SE. Drive 0.5 mile  and turn left (west) onto North Bend Way nd in 0.25 mile, turn right (north) onto Mount Si Road. Continue 2.5 miles and turn left into the large trailhead parking lot (600 ft). The "main" trail begins at the far corner of the parking lot where past the picnic area and outhouse. Discover Pass required.

The trail is moderate for the first two miles and then steepens with more switchbacks until it ends in the meadow at the top. Since the "haystack" jutting out of the meadow at the summit is considered a scramble by The Mountaineers, we will not be attempting it...this is a hike not a scramble. Please do not join with the intention of attempting the haystack.

Feel free to bring a mid-morning snack, since we will enjoy the view for ~20 minutes at the summit.

Leader Permission required; preference given to Foothills Alpine Scrambling students until Fri 03/19 at 5 pm. At that time, anyone who has already been approved through Leader Permission can register. Please do not be taken aback if I cancel your registration if you register early and are not in the Foothills Scrambling Course, or if you register on Fri 03/19 after 5 pm and were not granted Leader Permission.

For those that want to use this hike as a conditioner, plan on bringing a pack with either 15% of body weight or 25-30 lbs.

By proceeding with any of the upcoming activities you are already registered to attend, you affirm that you have reviewed The Mountaineers COVID-19 Code of Conduct and the guidance for participants and leaders available on the COVID-19 Response page, and you agree to follow this guidance during each activity. Please remove yourself from any upcoming activity if you are unable or unwilling to follow The Mountaineers guidance at the time of the program.

Also, to help ensure your safety and the safety of our fellow hikers, the leader asks that you only carpool to the trailhead with other members of your household registered for the same trip. 

All participants will need to have a face covering (mask, bandanna or muff), hand sanitizer and a backpack containing the 10 essentials. Wherever possible, all group member will maintain the 6 ft minimum social distancing protocol and be ready to pull up face covering over mouth and nose when this is not possible passing others on the trail and at the trailhead.
