Mount Ellinor from Upper Trailhead (Strenuous Conditioner)

Meet at Mud Bay Park & Ride (Olympia, 98502) at 15:45 (3:45 pm).

I plan on driving and can accommodate 4 passengers.

You can also meet us at the Upper Trailhead at 17:00 (5:00 pm). If you plan on meeting us at the upper trailhead, please make sure to let me know.

WARNING: Strenuous Conditioner Hike

This is a strenuous conditioner hike with round trip distance of  5.15 km (3.2 miles) and 732  meter  (2,440 feet) elevation gain in 2.5 km (1.6 miles).

Goal: Mount Ellinor Summit in 60 minutes

The pace will be dependent on participants; I'm hoping to sustain a strenuous pace. Strenuous  would be defined as 80% of maximum heart rate. Just as a side note: if you want to increase you're VO2 max, you need to be conditioning at 60%-80% of maximum heart rate.

Weight is a big factor in speed; that said, you still need to have your 10 essentials, and whatever additional gear conditions warrant.


I'll have (2-3) radios if the group decides to split up. 

You should have a SAM splint as part of your first aid kit.


Likely the trail and summit will be clear of snow for this trip.
