Day Hike - Mima Falls

Explore the most scenic part of Capitol State Forest on a loop hike with a lunch stop at a picnic table by picturesque Mima Falls, with a brief stop at mysterious Mima Mounds during the return drive.

Meet at 9:30 AM at the Farm Boy Drive-in parking lot at the end of Exit 95 from I-5.  At the road junction, go straight and find the Farm Boy Drive-in on your right.

From the Farm Boy Drive-in we will caravan to the trailhead by driving west on Maytown Road SW through the town of Littlerock, where the road becomes 128th Ave SW, turning right at the T junction onto Waddell Creek Road SW and then left into the parking lot of Margaret McKenny Campground, which appears shortly after entering Capitol State Forest.  A Discover Pass must be displayed by each car parked there.  There is a restroom at the trailhead parking lot, as well as at the Farm Boy Drive-in, but not elsewhere on the hike.

We will hike three miles to Mima Falls on McKenny, Campground, Mima Falls Tie and Mima Falls trails.  After lunch we'll loop back five miles on the Mima Falls East, Campground and McKenny trails.   We should be back to the cars around 3 PM.  Then we will drive the short distance to Mima Mounds Natural Area, where there are two restrooms and cars must display the Discover Pass.  We'll spend a few minutes studying the mounds and exhibits before leaving.

On the drive home, we'll have an optional refreshment stop at the Farm Boy Drive- In.
