6:30 AM at Issaquah Transit Center

This early-to-melt trail promises early summer flowerfields and fantastic views including the Stuart massif, Rainier and Adams. We will start at the Iron Bear trailhead, 3800' (rd 9714). We will climb to Teanaway Ridge (1.8 miles) and cross over, following the South Fork Bear Creek trail 1351 3.5 miles to the start of the Miller Peak trail 1379, 3200', and turn north. Miller Peak is 3.8 miles and 3200 feet elevation gain from there, but on our fresh legs. After enjoying the veiws from the peak (6400'), we'll head east on the County Line trail #1226 along the ridge, enjoying ridgeline views and flower fields all the way 4.2 miles back to the junction with the Iron Bear trail, and 1.8 miles more to the trailhead. Total miles 15.1, elevation gain approx 3800. This trip is posted for a brisk pace, and hikers should be in excellent condition, able to move along without frequent rest stops. Water is limited along the route so bring plenty. Of course, pack your 10 essentials and bring sun protection as well as layers for the heat of the climbs as well as the breezes of the peak. Sturdy ankle-support boots with good traction are required.
