Our path will follow an old logging road with switchbacks until about 1500 feet and 2 miles up. We will then enter a big clear-cut. This has great views over to Rattlesnake Ledge, Mt Teneriffe and the top of Mt Si.
At 4.2 miles we will reach the radio tower. This is not the true summit of McDonald Mtn. but has good views. We will probably have lunch here. On the way back if the weather is clear we visit a small ledge down some steps cut into the bank for an amazing view of Mt. Rainier. Our route is just under 9 miles and just over 2,300 ft. elevation gain. It will be taken at a moderate pace. A good level of fitness and stamina is required.
I will e-mail more details of how to get to our meeting place and the trailhead to everyone who signs up shortly after registration closes. This message will also include an encouragement to carpool, details of restrooms, weather forecast for the area etc.
Any questions about this trip are welcome.
