Marmot Pass & Buckhorn Mountain

Trip

Day Hike - Marmot Pass

Sign ups for this trip are for Olympia branch Conditioning Hiking Series course participants only, until Tuesday August 24th. After August 24th, any Mountaineer hiker may sign up, space permitting.

  • Very Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 14.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 4,700 ft
  • Pace: 1.5 - 2.5

Pace will be 1.5-2 mph depending on steepness. We will keep it conversational, stick together, and make decisions as a group. We will make it a point to stop at least every hour for party separations, food, water, etc. If the entire group is feeling exceedingly strong, we can discuss summiting Buckhorn Mountain once we are at the pass, which is an additional 1 mile and 1000’ of gain. It is very steep and not a true trail, just a boot path. It will likely add 1.5 hours to an already long trip. It’s super fun and pretty, but it does require excellent conditioning!

Olympia CHS students may request leader permission prior to the trip registration opening so that you can register as soon as it opens. In your leader permission request please state your recent hiking trips (last 2 months) and note any concerns or questions about the desired pace.

Details will be sent to trip participants as the date for the trip approaches
