Margaret's Way

Day Hike - Margaret's Way to Debbie's View

The steady climb up to Debbie's View is on a well-maintained, forested trail on Squak Mountain. We will hike at a moderate pace of 2.0-2.5 mph and spend a few minutes at the top to (hopefully) enjoy a view of Mt. Rainier. Please meet at the trailhead no later than 7:30 a.m. for a 7:45 a.m. hike departure. Please bring a face covering for wearing while passing others on the trail. Due to Covid restrictions, carpooling is not recommended with people outside of your household.

COVID-19: Learn about our most up-to-date guidance for participants and leaders on our COVID-19 Response page. All participants and leaders must agree to the COVID-19 Code of Conduct before participating in this Mountaineers activity.

We will meet at the Cougar Mountain Recreation parking lot by 7:30 a.m. so that we can start hiking by 7:45 a.m. No parking pass is required. Porta potties are available. Please bring a mask to wear. We will follow Mountaineers protocol by wearing face masks while within six feet of others.

Directions to Parking Lot: From I-90, take exit 15 signed Lake Sammamish/Renton Highway 900. At the stoplight at the end of the exit turn right onto Highway 900/Renton-Issaquah Road and go south toward Renton. From the stoplight drive 3.2 miles and turn left at the easy-to-miss driveway with a large blue Cougar Mountain Recreation sign. The large parking lot is straight ahead.

We will hike rain or shine, so please be prepared for wet weather. Please dress in layers and stick to wool, synthetics, and no cotton in order to stay warm. The trail is often muddy this time of year, so please wear proper footwear. Throughout the hike we will maintain a steady, moderate pace with a short stop at the top.

Margaret's Way is a lovely forested trail built in 2014. We'll  see a variety of trees including Douglas fir, western hemlock, bigleaf maple, and cedar, as well as lush ferns. If weather cooperates, we should be able to get views of Mount Rainier from Debbie's View.
