  • Very Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 7.9 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 4,100 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 4,822 ft
  • Pace: approx 1.5 mph up, 2 mph down

8 am. Inside the gate IF it's open (it *should* be), outside if not. Discover Pass required if inside gate. Outhouse available at parking lot inside gate, though a little ways from the trail if you/we park outside.

We will meet there but if anyone wants to carpool, let me know and I can meet you anywhere on W side of I-90.

Probably won't need spikes but I recommend bringing them just in case. Pole(s) also recommended. Please be in shape for 4k' gain, and be willing to descend via either Old or New Trail, depending on group wishes.

If you want to bring one dog that you will keep leashed the whole time, that you'll carry a poop bag for and carry it with you, and you know Doggy is up for the trip, please let me know that when you sign up. If you want a dog-free trip, let me know that when you sign up, and I'll remove comments about allowing a dog.

I'm carrying microspikes though we probably won't need them. If you think you may wish to go at a faster pace than the group or want extra conditioning, please carry extra water in your pack.

Mailbox is a popular peak, esp. on weekends, and gets a lot of trip reports. This one reminds up why even the most experienced should also be prepared. Mailbox Peak - Old Trail — Washington Trails Association (wta.org)
