Mailbox Peak Trailhead parking lot       8am    Discover Pass required

Take Exit 34 off of I-90 and drive north on 468th Ave SE for approximately a half mile.  Turn right onto the SE Middle Fork Road, continue for 2.5 miles, turn right and drive 200 yards to the large Mailbox Peak trailhead parking lot.  Meet near the restrooms.

COVID -19:  We will adhere to the Mountaineer’s protocol.  All participants are required to have face masks and hand sanitizer.  We will wear masks at the trailhead, stopping on the trail and when passing other hikers or being passed.  We will maintain social distance at 6 feet the best that we can and all are encouraged to wear masks as much as possible.

ROUTE: While this is not a scramble it is a very steep aggressive hike.  The trail gains 4,100 feet in 3 miles to the summit.  Coming down will be much gentler as we will descend the new trail which is 5.5 miles long with its many switchbacks.  This trip is not being billed as a conditioner hike but it’s really for those people who just want to climb Mailbox Peak purely for fun without the pressure of doing it at a pre-determined set time.  Mailbox by its very nature is a conditioner for most and we will be pacing ourselves at an average of somewhere around 1.5mph or even less on the steep upward sections and 2.5mph on the way down.  Whatever pace we set we will keep the group together and make it a good time.

Leader’s permission is required and only sign up if you are comfortable on steep rocky trails with lots of exposed tree roots as well as a moderately steep snow slope on the upper part of the route.

If interested in registering please request leader’s permission and explain what you have been doing over the winter to assure me that you are ready for this hike.

More information will be sent a couple days prior to the hike including updated weather forecast information.

The trip will be dependent on the weather and will be rescheduled if the conditions are not favorable to the safety and enjoyment for the group.
