Day Hike - Mailbox Peak

Drop your mom’s card in *The Mailbox* May 12, and see if it gets there by Mother’s Day!

  • Very Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 6.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 4,100 ft
  • Pace: 1000ft/hr

Trailhead 8:30. Oly group will leave at 6:45 from MWPR.

This is a reprisal of the "Mailbox Peak up the old, down the new," that didn’t go April 14 due to avy danger and miserable conditions. This hike is a doozy, gaining 4,000ft in 2.4-ish miles on a rocky, rooty ladder of a trail. After reaching a junction, there is more uphill - over a boulder field and an open slope to the famed mailbox at the top. The new trail down is double the distance, so safer and gentler on the knees for descent, but still not for the faint of heart.

We’ll take this at a pace of about 1,000ft/hr, though no one will get left behind. Fast hikers, feel free to load up your packs and train for summer climbs, backpacks and scrambles.

Because of the strenuous nature of the hike, please request leader permission.

By May 12, we should only need microspikes and poles, but we’ll check trip reports the week prior to the trip.

Oly group will stop in North Bend or Snoqualmie for a well-deserved meal afterward. All are welcome!
