Day Hike - Mailbox Peak

Conditioning hike for climbers and scramblers - old trail up and down

  • Very Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 5.4 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 3,800 ft
  • Pace: 2hr20min to top

This is mainly a conditioner for climbers and scramblers.  We will be moving up the old trail at a pace to reach the top in 2 hours and 20 minutes.  If that sounds wild to you (too fast or too slow), please do not join this activity.   We will have a short break at the top and return via the old trail.

Graduates and Students of any climbing course who are able to keep up with that pace have permission to join.  If you aren't a climber or scrambler, but want to join us, please send me a message with your most recent hiking stats that show you can hike at that pace.

For the hike, I am big on keeping a steady pace and not taking too many breaks.  I will allow any climbing or scrambling participant who has been there before to spread out on the trail.  If you don't make it to the top at the end of our break, we will catch you on the way down.

If you want to bring extra weight for your conditioning, please bring it in water so you can dump it out if it is too much for you.

Upper Mailbox Peak Trailhead, ready to start hiking at 7:30 am.
