Day Hike - Lower Skokomish River

An old growth forest hike through a less popular, less maintained trail to soak in all the lower Olympic forest.

  • Easy
  • Easy
  • Mileage: 8.5 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 800 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 900 ft
  • Pace: 2mph

We will meet at the Skokomish Lower South Fork Trailhead outside of Shelton, WA at 10am on Friday November 29th.

To get to the trailhead take Skokomish Valley Road 5.5 miles to FR-23. Continue 9 miles to FR 2353 then turn right over the river. Turn left at a four-way junction and proceed less than .5 mile to the trailhead.

We will begin hiking after a short trailhead talk and plan to take plenty of breaks and enjoy the forest. We will make 12:30 lunchtime, start back by 1pm and aim to be back to the trailhead by around 3pm. Each car should have a national park or NW Forest service pass.

Be prepared to potentially get your feet wet and for wet hiking conditions. I will only cancel for snow or unsafe conditions.

I would recommend carrying 1.5-2 liters of water and lunch/ snacks.
We will aim to hike to the old camp comfort site but this is less about a destination and more about enjoying the old growth forest.
