This will be a six mile loop with about 1000 feet of elevation gain through mixed forest on a rather new, firm trail system. A waterfall and a view to Lake Whatcom.

Lookout Mountain Forest preserve trailhead off Lake Louise road. Be ready to hike at 9am. No parking passes required and a toilet at the parkng lot. Close to Bellingham for post hike meal or beverages.
A few places with shallow mud, gaiters suggested, hiking poles optional, nothing too steep or slippery. Snow might necessitate traction augmentation or rescheduling.
