Day Hike - Little Si

This is a close to home conditioning hike through a forest canopy to a rocky open summit with a panoramic view.

  • Easy/Moderate
  • Easy
  • Mileage: 5.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,200 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 1,576 ft
  • Pace: 2.0 mph

Meet at 10 AM at the trailhead parking lot, reached by taking Exit 32 from I-90, turning left (north) at the end of the exit ramp, and left again at the T junction at North Bend Way.  Then turn right in a short distance onto Mt. Si Road, cross the Snoqualmie River and turn left into the second parking lot after the bend in the road.  It has a restroom by the entrance.  If that lot is full, backtrack to the first parking lot that you passed, which is the overflow lot.  A trail allows you to wlak from there to the main parking lot.  We will meet by the restroom building, which is by the trailhead.  A Discover Pass must be displayed by cars parked in either parking lot.

This is a very popular conditioner because it is a short drive from both Seattle and Tacoma, is a short hike and is at a low enough elevation that it is usually snow free.  The trail begins with a steep rise, then runs mostly level for a mile or so, and then rises steeply again while switchbacking up the pinnacle, emerging from the forest canopy to a magnificent view in the open rocky summit area, where we have our lunch.  We return by the same route.

After the hike, there will be an optional refreshment stop at iconic Twede's Restaurant in North Bend, made famous by the Twin Peaks TV series.
