Day Hike - Lincoln Park

A brisk late afternoon/early evening hike on a Monday. Start your week off at Lincoln Park in West Seattle with a 3 mph "fastish" hike on mostly flat terrain with beachfront views of Puget Sound, Vashon Island, and the Olympic Mountains.. 2.3 miles out, 2.3 miles back with headlamps. Round 4 of "Movin' Mondays".

  • Easy/Moderate
  • Easy
  • Mileage: 3.4 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 200 ft
  • Pace: 3 mph - slower on stairs

Meet at 4:00 pm at 8011 Fauntleroy Way SW- will update with landmark in pre-hike message. Take I-5 to the West Seattle Bridge exit. Follow the signs to Fauntleroy Way SW. Stay on Fauntleroy Way SW until you come to Lincoln Park on the right hand side of the street.

This walk/hike has been recommended by a couple of Mountaineers who joined my prior hikes. We'll stick together as a group on the main trail at about 3 mph. The parking lot is open per Seattle Parks website and does not require any passes, but beware that theft can be a concern given the time of day. Please arrive at the park at 4:00 pm so we can meet with introductions, discuss conditions on the trail and group goals, and start hiking by 4:10 pm. Sneakers or trail running shoes are appropriate; headlamps required and gloves suggested. Goal is to have a safe, enjoyable collective experience and be back in the parking lot by ~6:00 pm so we can head home for dinner.

This is not a slow stroll in the park, but a brisk walk. Please contact the leader before registering if you have not recently done a hike of this mileage and speed, or have any doubt about your fitness and stamina to keep up. Also, if you are a trail runner and feel 3 mph with a couple of stops along the trail is insufficient of a work-out for you, please consider if this trip is a good match for your abilities. We walk as a group.

HIKING UNDER COVID 19:

All participants and leaders must agree to the COVID-19 Code of Conduct before attending an in-person Mountaineers activity during our COVID-19 response. Please remove yourself from any upcoming activity if you are unable or unwilling to follow The Mountaineers guidance at the time of the program.

Lincoln Park falls under current City of Seattle COVID-19 guidelines: "Outdoor social gatherings are limited to five or fewer people from outside your household (people you don't live with). Outdoor spaces are where everyone can stay six feet (2 m) apart."

Also, to help ensure your safety and the safety of our fellow walkers, the leader asks that you only carpool to the park with other members of your household registered for the same trip.

All participants will need to have a face covering (mask, bandanna or muff), hand sanitizer and a pack containing the 10 essentials (although you can skip the sunscreen).  Wherever possible, all group member will maintain the 6 ft minimum social distancing protocol and be ready to pull up face covering over mouth and nose when this is not possible passing others on the trail and at the starting point.

Full details will be emailed as soon as the trip closes on Dec 19. In the interim please contact the leader with any questions: BMPeacock@aol.com.
