Day Hike - Lime Kiln Trail

Come hike into spooky season with me as we explore a mossy, atmospheric trail to a lime kiln ruin that was built in the 1890s

  • Easy
  • Easy
  • Mileage: 5.5 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 625 ft
  • Pace: 1.5-2.0

Please meet at the trailhead parking lot, ready for introduction by 9:30am so we can hit the trail together right after.  For those wishing to decrease cars and increase connection, please review this carpooling link: https://www.mountaineers.org/activities/activity-overviews/good-carpooling-practices

This spooky season hike is an out-and-back trail down along a gentle, green canyon leading to a lime kiln that had been operational from the 1890s-1930s. Maybe we will hear the echoes of the carts loaded with limestone clattering down the track?...

We will settle in to hike at a relaxed pace of 1.5-2.0, being slower on the uphills and faster on the downhills to meet participant needs and foster socializing, allowing stops for interpretive signs, appreciate views, and pictures.

Our main break will be at the lime kiln. Length will be dependent on weather and group comfort, but also allow time for pictures and bio breaks. This will also be our turn around point--we will not continue the trail to the small lollipop loop down by the river.

Please Note: The majority of the gain occurs on the return of this hike: roughly 600'. We will adjust pace and take breaks as frequent as necessary.

Restroom: port o potty in parking lot
