9:00 AM at Entrance to Cougar Park Campground, near Cougar, WA
This day hike is part of a car camp where we camp at Cougar Campground the night of Saturday June 21 and day hike to Ape Caves on Saturday and Lewis River Falls on Sunday. Cougar Campground is within walking distance of the town of Cougar, where restaurants and stores are available. The campground is on a large lake offering recreational opportunities. Since June 21 is the longest day of the year, we should have time in the evening to enjoy those opportunities. Camp fees are $10 for solo tenters and $5 for tent sharers. Three adjacent campsites have been reserved and paid for. Our Sunday hike to Lewis River Falls takes us by four spectacular waterfalls, and has a distance of seven miles roundtrip with 500 feet elevation gain.
