7:00 AM at South Renton Park and Ride
This will be a 16-17 mile hike, most of it along the PCT. There will be 3,000 to 4,000 feet of gain (I’ll update this with a more precise number). We will be traveling at a fast rate, 2 mph uphill and around 2.5 mph on the crest. There are no water sources that I know of on the crest, so you will have to carry all of your water up the initial ascent. Please be able and prepared to travel this distance, at this rate, with this weight. This rate will leave us plenty of time for pictures and gawking at the scenery and the wildflowers. I hiked a large part of this portion of the PCT on Saturday and there was no snow to cross, the views are spectacular and the flowers are blooming wildly. We will start at the Crystal Mountain Ski resort and get up to the crest in the shortest possible way. I believe this will be the Bullion Basin trail (2.2 miles one way); I will be scouting this out this week and will be updating the notes. We will then travel north on the PCT for around 6 miles, turn around and retrace our steps. A Nation Forest pass or America the Beautiful pass is needed at the trailhead. Green Trails map 271, Bumping Lake, has the whole route. Please email if you have any questions. If you have any questions about your ability to do this hike, please email me before you sing up, thanks.
