Trip Overview

We're going to spend the day exploring some of the cool trails around Mount St. Helens. Here's the tentative itinerary:

8:00AM - 12:00PM Lava Canyon trail

12:00PM-1:00PM Lunch

1:00PM-4:00PM Ape Caves, Volcano View Trail, Trail of Two Forests

Lava Canyon features a wobbly suspension bridge, steel ladders, and one section where you use a steel cable for balance. It is not ideal for those with a fear of heights and/or exposure.

Ape Caves will require headlamps and may not be for those who get claustrophobic. Additionally, the caves are a constant 42F, so you will want to bring some layers.  To navigate the upper tube, you will sometime be climbing and crawling, and there is an 8 ft wall that you must scale about midway through.
