Day Hike - Lake Louise—Moraine Lake, Banff National Park

PHOTOGRAPHERS ONLY. Photo-oriented hikes to scenic lakes, wildlife views, stunning mountains and glaciers, golden larches and other fall colors in Lake Louise - Moraine Lake areas of Canada's Banff National Park. 9/20-22 sunny or mostly sunny weather forecast.

7am or earlier (TBD) at trailheads (Lake Louise & Moraine Lk trails); 8am for any alternate hikes in Banff NP.   From Lk Louise campground, depart 30 minutes prior to trailhead arrival.

Leisurely to moderate pace for short to extended photo stop opportunities.  These are not appropriate hikes for you, if you prefer a faster-paced hike.

Before  contacting trip leader, be sure to review all trip details (leader notes, route/place info, links) to ensure your interests are compatible with participants' photo-oriented trip expectations of other participants.

* Leader permission required (use leader permission link) for leader review and approval, prior to registration - include moderate to strenuous Mountaineers hiking experience (past 2 years), photography interests,  and why you're interested in the Lake Louise - Moraine Lake hiking trip.  Indicate interest in carpooling - drive or ride, willing to drive solo (carpooling space not guaranteed).  Also confirm in your request that you have current passport or WA enhanced driver's license (or WA enhanced ID) valid through trip dates, required for border crossing.

Leisurely to moderate pace for short to extended photo stop opportunities.  These are not appropriate hikes for you, if you prefer a faster-paced hike.

Hikes itinerary (tentative):  9/20 Saddleback/Fairview Mtn: 9/21 Larch Valley/Sentinel Pass; 9/22 Plain of Six Glaciers (or comparable scenic fall color hike).  Details to follow for comparable larch/fall color scenic hikes may be offered 1-2 days in Kananaskis and Banff NP areas, which will have fewer hikers.

Banff NP may require minimum group size during September on some Moraine Lake trails:  4-6 persons for safety in grizzly active areas.  May combine with another group to meet minimum size requirements, or leader will select alternate hike from route/place options.  Current minimum group size trail requirements will be posted at https://www.pc.gc.ca/en/pn-np/ab/banff/bulletins .

We will be hiking in grizzly and black bear country, and practice safe travel as a group in the area.  Each participant is required to carry 1 bear spray cannister (ie, Counter Assault available at REI).  Please review bear safe travel information at: http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/conserve/bearsandcougars.pdf?v=1561400648374

Participants are responsible for reserving own accommodations - NP camp sites, hostel (Lake Louise), motels in Lake Louise area.  Each participant will need to purchase a Parks Canada entrance pass (annual or daily fee).   Leader will be tenting at Lake Louise Tent/Trailer CG 9/18-22 nights.  Accom info:  https://www.banfflakelouise.com/accommodation
