Lake Fenwick via the Rabbit Loop

Day Hike - Lake Fenwick via the Rabbit Loop

We will be in town, but for much of this route it's more like the countryside as we travel to Lake Fenwick along the Rabbit Loop and return along the Green River Trail in Kent

10:00 am at "Hogan Park at Russell Road" 24400 Russell Road, Kent, WA 98032 (formerly called Russell Road Park),

The park was renamed in 2014 in honor of former Kent Mayor Isabel Hogan, then aged 93 years

Latitude : 47.38487 | Longitude : -122.262705

Starting from Hogan Park at Russell Road we will travel at a moderate pace to the Green River Bridge and walk east alongside the par 3 golf course following the Rabbit Loop. This is a part of the new Kent Valley Loops Trail System. We will cross the footbridge under SR 516 and head back west along Frager Rd. to reach the Old Fishing Hole after almost 2 miles.

After looping the pond  we will cross SR 516 and enter Lake Fenwick Park by the Woodlands Estate Apts. We will follow a trail combining boardwalk, dirt and gravel sections. As the secluded trail turns to the right (north) we climb a steep metal staircase of abut 180 steps. After a short flat section the path then descends quite steeply to the lakeside giving glimpses of the lake to our left. Following sections of gravel path, grass and roadside close to the lakeside including a boardwalk section we will reach the Fenwick Park Boat Launch and travel further along the lakeside to find a picnic table for a lunch stop with a toilet close by. If the boardwalk is closed we will follow a direct path that can get wet and muddy after rain.

We will return by the same route until we re-cross SR 516. We will rejoin the Green River Trail on the east bank of the river and follow this trail north and then east alongside the River Bend Golf Course to where the trail meets Russell Road. We cross the road on the new crosswalk and turn right to re-enter Hogan Park at Russell Road to complete the trip.

This hike is approximately 6 miles round trip and 180 ft. elevation gain. There are sections of road shoulder, sidewalk, paved, boardwalk gravel, grass and dirt trail: the latter which can be quite muddy in parts in winter and after rain so hiking boots rather than shoes are recommended.

The hike will be led at a moderate pace.
