I love this time of the year. Hiking trails start to melt out, yet you are still likely to enjoy some time in the snow on the way and certainly at this beautiful Alpine Lake. The bridge at the lake is our destination. We will not attempt to circle the lake this early in the season. I will include a link to a trip report from last weekend at the end of this post. Trail is said to be clear of snow till be get closer to the lake. Bring trekking poles, Gaiters, Hiking Boots, traction devices (like Yaktrax or similar) or even snow shoes if you like. Whatever it takes you to be comfortable on snow near the lake. No snowmobiles! Again, know that we will not be using this gear to circle the lake, as post holing is possible, even though the snow is quite consolidated. Bring your lunch, sun glasses, and drink. We will meet at the Park n Ride which is under I-5 at NE 65th and 8th Ave NE. Use exit 170 if coming from the South on I-5, or exit 171 if coming from the North. Park West of the Coffee stand. Shell station is also right there. Both landmarks are just East of I-5. East is where the sun rises! We will try to form carpools from there, and head to the Verlot Ranger Station (15 minutes beyond Granite Falls) where those who choose to drive direct (AND MUST EMAIL ME THAT FACTOID), will meet us between 9:15 and 9:30. Cameras are always a good idea at the lake. We will not be rushing. This is a slow paced hike, and we will travel as a group. No dogs or children on this hike. We should be back in town early enough that you can still get some dancing in at Folkllife Festival. This is my first hike to Lake 22 this year. I am looking forward to it. Weather is supposed to be GREAT!. See you Saturday. http://www.nwhikers.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7975058
