There will definitely be snow on the trail. Bring traction devices and/or poles if you are uncomfortable negotiating slippery snow conditions. A good pair of boots with water proof liners might come in handy. Carpooling is strongly suggested to get to the Ranger Station which is about 15 minutes beyond Granite Falls. Consult your maps for ranger station location, which is about a mile before you reach the trailhead. Good rest rooms at Ranger Station, and you can also buy your NW Forest parking permits there (one per carload). This is a darn pretty lake, and who doesn't like a snowy hike?
