Kendall Katwalk

Day Hike - Kendall Katwalk

PHASE 2 HIKE. Beautiful, fun, but strenuous hike to see the only part of PCT that was blasted out of a mountainside. Also the wildflowers along the way may be amazing!

COVID-19: Learn about our most up-to-date guidance for participants and leaders on our COVID-19 Response page. All participants and leaders must agree to the COVID-19 Code of Conduct before participating in this Mountaineers activity.
  • Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 11.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,700 ft
  • Pace: 1.75 to 2.2 mph

Will meet at the trailhead in the Snoqualmie  Pass Area, just off Exit 52 from I-90, at 7am and please be ready to hike at that time so you may wish to arrive by 6:4am.  The early hike time is my hope for all to find parking spots in the lot or the overflow parking (up to 8 cars need parking) AND the yearly roadwork on the pass has started so we will miss  a back-up on the way there (usually start time for blocking lanes is just after this time).

HIKE IN GENERAL:  Mountaineers lists it as 11 miles (5.5 out and back) but it may be more like 12 (still within COVID-19 guidelines).   The elevation is 2700 over 5-6 miles and mostly gradual so noticeable yet not too horrible.  There are so many scenery changes all along this hike that it is rarely boring.  And I am hoping to see great wildflowers; my other wildflower hikes so far this year have been amazing. And the end point, the Katwalk, is an amazing engineer feet.  Rest breaks as needed along the way and longer one at the Katwalk so all can walk around, explore and enjoy.  This is truly one of my favorite hikes!

Hike Pace/Time:  1.75 to 2.2 mph pace when actually hiking; sometimes a little slower and sometimes faster; definitely slower going up for all who wish to take pictures but likely we will hike quicker on the way down.  This is an all day hike that takes total of about 7 to 8 hours  including the breaks but plan on a little more time if needed.  Just plan to enjoy a full day of hiking as a wonderful group of Mountaineers.  :-)
