Road hike on a gated FS road. If the weather cooperates, the views will be grand: Persis, Index, Baring and the Skykomish river valley. The last of the fall colors will be fading, the mushrooms collapsing, the ground damp and the air crisp. Hiking in the shoulder season has its own charms.
