Johnston Ridge, post-apocalyptic style! Few people, weeds growing in an empty parking lot, lack of mechanical sounds and the blast zone....
Note that if you are coming from Seattle this is a VERY long drive.
My goals for this trip are as follows:
1. Be safe
2. Make it to Johnston Ridge and enjoy views of MSH, flowers and goats.
3. Learn something
My expectations for trip participants are:
1. Practice Leave No Trace principles.
2. Be respectful of all participants.
3. Have necessary physical conditioning for this hike. Nothing extreme here, but it's all exposed to the sun/wind/weather, which add an extra element. Trail is in good shape overall with a few narrow, rocky spots. Possible snow patches on top of the ridge. Pace will be in the 2.0 mph range, faster on the way down.
4. Have the necessary gear and clothing to be safe and comfortable. Elevation here is not that high but there is not much in the way of shelter on the hike, so come prepared for sun, wind, rain, just about anything. Trail is almost totally dry so you will need plenty of water.
Martin Way Park & Ride in Olympia at 0600.
