Day Hike - Island Center Forest

Explore a 440 acre King County Park, including both a Natural Area and working forest, with opportunities to observe abundant wildlife on the morning hike and the option to see a nearby sheep dog herding contest in the afternoon.

Meet at 9 AM at the trailhead parking lot near the intersection of SW 188th St and 107th Ave SW on Vashon Island, which can be reached from either the North Vashon ferry dock or the Tallequah ferry dock at the south end of the Island.  No trailhead parking pass is required.

This is a rare opportunity to combine a morning hike with an entertaining afternoon sheep dog herding contest in the afternoon.  The admission fee for the sheep dog herding contest was $10 last year if purchased on Vashon Island.  A service fee is added if tickets are bought in advance from Brown Paper Tickets, which will begin offering them on April 1.  Tickets may not be available at the gate.  The contest is at Misty Isle Farms, a short distance south of the hike location.  Enroute there we can stop to look at the famous "bicycle tree", where a bicycle has become embedded in a tree through many years of growth of the tree.  Unless you live on Vashon Island, participation in this hike will require a round trip ferry ride, so carpooling will significantly reduce transportation cost.
