This hike is ONLY PART of the Icicle Ridge route, with 9.6 miles round-trip and 3980' actual gain. The route itself is one of the highest hikes in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. The views from the ridge are far and wide. The trail is steep in the first several miles. It begins from about 1600 feet elevation and climbs to the ridge crest at 5580 feet after 4.8 miles. If conditions allow, we will climb to this ridge crest, have lunch and turn around there. Given the impressive snowfall this season, traction devices such as Yak-Trax, Microspikes or equivalent and hiking poles are mandatory on this hike. This hike is part of the Conditioning Hiking Series. Please sign up only if you are in the course. Note: This is a “Go Getter” CHS 2 level hike, with distance and elevation gain beyond the requirements for this month.
