Day Hike - Hope Island

Leader permission required. This is a multi-disciplinary "excursion" designed for youth. Participants are responsible to arrange their own transportation to/from Hope Island.

  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 4.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 40 ft

We will meet at Boston Harbor Marina under their dock canopy at 11 am to discuss trip details and travel together in a group to Hope Island.  Please have your boat ready to go by this time. There is free guest moorage available at the marina.

The purpose of this trip is to receive feedback on a multi-disciplinary "excursion" with youth in mind. This is loosely based on the movie  Jumanji (2017).

We teach youth how to prepare for hikes, navigate, work together, and assess/manage risks effectively . This is designed to give youth an opportunity to work together and work through "obstacles" found in the outdoors... with a twist. I am inviting Olympia youth leaders  to participate and help refine a scalable and repeatable process for leading similar events in the future.

Participants should prepare to get wet and have dry clothes and footwear available on the island.

Due to the  logistical complexity of getting to Hope Island, unfavorable weather will require us to reschedule our trip. This may include wind, small craft advisories, lightning, heavy rain, poor visibility, etc.
