Day Hike - Harmony Falls

A Family hike with driftwood, volcano, waterfalls, lush undergrowth, berries, and maybe swimming---Combine with overnight and another hike in Randle area!

  • Easy
  • For Beginners (Getting Started Series)
  • Mileage: 2.4 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 650 ft
  • Pace: slow

Meet at 9:00am in Olympia for the two hour drive to a rendezvous in Randle.  Take a break at Iron Falls for lunch before finishing the drive up to the east side of Mt. St. Helen.

Although this is a long drive we will break it up with the waterfall lunch stop. This is a terrific opportunity to explore the east side of Mt. St. Helen.  The hike is short and lovely and ends at the beach on Spirit Lake that is covered with "driftwood" that are the trees that were stripped clean and thrown into the lake during the eruption. There are sandy beaches and areas where it is safe to wade and maybe swim, plus driftwood piles for climbing. There is also a rock scrambling area that is relatively safe.  We will spend a couple of hours hanging out at the lake.

After hiking back up the trail we will continue driving to Windy Ridge for the full tourist view of the crater.  Berries should be in full force then so we may take a stop to collect some for dinner.

This hike is intended to be combined with an overnighter at the Havlak Three Volcanoes Cabin near Randle  (listed as Urban Adventure) and a second hike will be offered on Sunday.
