Day Hike - Hall Creek

Exploratory hike to ridge above Hall Creek to find an abandoned logging truck. Navigation skills and enjoyment of exploration are required for this short, steep hike SEE LEADERS NOTES FOR MORE INFO

  • Elevation Gain: 2,800 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 4,000 ft
  • Pace: Slow uphill 2.0 (avg) downhill
  • WTA calls this the ZipZag trail, an unmaintained trail full of roots & rocks.  We'll follow ZigZag trail to FR 9021. At 4000' elevation, we should reach "Truck Summit" where the abandoned logging truck can be found. ZigZag trail is named after it's tight switchbacks. It ascends at a rate of 1000ft/mile. 
  • The pace up & down steep sections of this trail will be SLOW.
  • Join this hike ONLY IF:
    • You have excellent navigation skills. I can navigate, but everyone on this trip must also be ready to do so, as well.
    • You can abide with the SLOW pace on ZigZag Trail and other steep trail sections. No speeding ahead of the group.
    • You're comfortable with the exploratory nature of this trip. I'm scouting it as a possible winter snowshoe route.
    • Your Mountaineers profile must show activity on steep, rugged trails within the last 3 months.  You will be removed from the roster if your Mountaineers profile does not show similar experience.
  • 10am Olallie State Park parking area on SE Homestead Road. This lot is for the Weeks Fall Interpretive Trail (51350 SE Homestead Valley Rd, North Bend, WA 98045)

  • Weather - from NWS
  • Directions - I-90, Exit 38. Turn south to SE Homestead Rd. This road parallels I-90. If you're headed in the right direction; then, South Fork Snoqualmie River & I-90 will be north of you.  After passing a dirt parking area on the left, cross the small bridge over Hall Creek. Entrance to Olallie State Park will be on your left.
  • Vault toilet is said to be open & in this parking lot.
