Day Hike - Granite Lakes via Granite Creek
Rain or shine (maybe we'll get lucky and get into snow), we'll see how many stream crossings run in late January on this lovely hike along a beautiful raging river. Brisk pace (2-2.5 mph) to keep everyone warm. An alternate will be offered if abundant snow makes the trip impossible.

We'll meet at the 65th P&R at 6:45 a.m. if coming from north Seattle, or at the trailhead at 8 a.m. to do introductions by 8:15 and be hiking by 8:30 a.m. The leader can take 1-2, but be forewarned I have a precious dog (who will not join us but spends time in the car) so if allergic, please arrange another mode of transportation. Drivers should have a valid Discover Pass.
To help people stay warm we'll have a brief stretching warmup and keep a steady pace, with a few short clothing/snack breaks at the first bridge and the Falls, and a longer break at Granite Lake. Be sure to have waterproof footwear and trekking poles, as there are abundant "stream" crossings and the approach to the lake can be quite wet. It's also recommended that you bring gaiters and a pack covering. Depending on temperature and weather, we'll also add a few sensory pauses to listen for thrushes, take photos, and appreciate the natural beauty surrounding us.
