Day Hike - Grand Park (Mount Rainier)

Early season day-hike with big views and hopefully wildflowers at Mt. Rainier.

  • Moderate
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 9.2 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,500 ft
  • Pace: 1.5-2mph

Heavy rain or other miserable/unsafe weather may necessitate a change of location or cancellation of the trip.

Recent trip reports indicate lots of bears in the area and lots of mosquitos/bugs, so come prepared to encounter both. Snow should be melted out completely by the 4th of July weekend, but poles/microspikes may be helpful for small patches we may encounter.

We will be hiking at a 1.5-2mph pace while moving plus time for breaks. This is designed to be a social hike, so we will be sticking together for the most part.  Our goal will be to make it to the viewpoint around 46.96186, -121.69285 before returning.

Meeting at US Forest Service Ranger Station in Enumclaw (47.199334, -121.974202) at 7:00AM on Sunday, July 6th. From there we will caravan to the trailhead. Recent trip reports indicate the road is rough in a few places with large potholes and a small rockslide that can be bypassed.  No permit required.
