Day Hike - Goat Lake (Monte Cristo)

This is a moderate hike to a beautiful lake in the Monte Cristo mining district.

  • Moderate
  • For Beginners (Getting Started Series)
  • Mileage: 10.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,280 ft

Meet 9:30 am at the trail head.  This is just off the Mountain Loop highway, a mile from the Sauk River.+

This can be a beautiful spring to early summer hike, assuming that enough of the snow has melted.  The route partially follows the remains of a road, abandoned a hundred years ago, to the site of a long vanished hotel.
