White River Campground to Glacier Basin Camp (M) (USGS Sunrise, GT Mt. Rainier East #270) 7 mi. RT. Gain 1,600’. Hike the first few miles of the second most popular route to Mt. Rainier’s summit. Our path will follow a new trail segment followed by a converted mining road along the churning glacier-fed White River, through an old growth forest and subalpine and alpine terrain. Part way up, if weather allows, we will see the fantastic Emmons Glacier, the largest in the lower 48 states. Come prepared for an early start, an aerobic pace and amazing views.
