.- Glacier Basin (M-S) (GT 270 Mt. Rainier East) (9 mi rt, 1704 ft ) A rugged climb around river rock and over jackstraw timber characterize the portion of this trail wiped out in the 2006 floods. Be among the last to use this challenging track before the new route opens later this year. We will maintain a quick aerobic pace before arriving at the spectacular Glacier Basin Campground at timberline. This old copper mining road is the second most popular route to Mt. Rainier’s summit, so we may see gear laden climbing teams. Marmots and black bear are also common sights. Sign up closes Aug 18. Let me know if you’re prepared for a challenging hike.
