Monte Cristo's riches are of the geologic and scenic variety.
The road must be walked 4 miles to the Monte Cristo townsite. There is one creek crossing that is usually on a big log across the creek. Trip is listed as strenuous/challenging because the last 2 miles of trail to Glacier Basin is rough, rocky and a bit scrambly in places. No ice axe or helmet needed, but you'll probably use your hands. If you've done the nearby Gothic Basin or Walt Bailey trails it's in those veins.
