Day Hike - Fragrance & Lost Lakes

This moderate hike through forest to a lovely lake and views of Samish Bay (9 miles, 1650 feet gain) is offered as part of the Introduction to Hiking in the PNW program and will have an extra emphasis on planning and demonstration of gear and skills.

Meet at 7AM at Ash Way Park and Ride, Ash Way and 164th St W, Lynnwood

Hike through a forest of bigleaf maple, alder, Douglas-fir and western hemlock, meandering 4.5 miles to a riparian hideout with waterfalls, old growth, fall color and year-round hiking.  Several routes are avaialble - we'll take the most scenic route following the Fragrance Lake trail past a cascading waterfall , turns onto the Lost Lake trail, and follows the route of an old logging road, steadily gaining elevation with occasional switchbacks.  We'll ascend to a high point at 1650' with views of Samish Bay,then descend to an overlook above Lost Lake, before descending to the lakeshore.

Gear requirements for this hike:

  1. sturdy boots or hiking shoes with thick grippy sole (preferably waterproof)
  2. warm non-cotton layers, warm hat and gloves
  3. Good waterproof jacket with hood
  4. pack
  5. hydration bladder or water bottles with 2 quarts of water
  6. personal first aid kit
  7. snacks and lunch

Of course you're encouraged to bring all the other ten essentials too!
