Day Hike - Foothills Trail

All participants have the option for a free breakfast at the Sunbreak Cafe before the hike.

Meet at 8:30 AM the Sunbreak Cafe, 22 A St. SW, Auburn, for those participating in the free breakfast, or at 10:30 AM at Nomad PNW Coffee Shop,529 Church St., Wilkeson, for those not participating in the free breakfast.  Check with the leader for driving directions.

For those eating the free breakfast at the Sunbreak Cafe, we will meet in the lobby at 8:30 AM, when the free breakfast coupons will be handed out. Then we will sit together and eat breakfast.  At 9:30 AM we will caravan to the parking lot by Nomad PNW Coffee Shop trailhead,, where we will meet hike participants not eating the free breakfast.  We cannot leave cars near the Sunbreak Cafe while we are hiking and parking space is limited in Wilkeson and and even more limited at the trailhead.  So, in Wilkeson we will further consolidate cars for the drive from there to the trailhead, a few miles south, a short distance north of Carbonado.  From there, we  will hike on an abandoned railroad grade to the Melmont ghost town, which will be our lunch stop and turnaround point.  We'll return by the same route.

After the hike we will have an optional refreshment stop at the historic Carbonado Saloon, which gets good reviews for both its food and historical decor.  It opens at Noon, so will not be available to us until after the hike.  Minimum age for this hike is 21, because alcohol is served at the Carbonado Saloon.  No parking pass is required at any of our parking places.

Our hiking trail is generally in good condition, but  could be muddy in places, so choose footwear appropriate for those conditions.
