Day Hike - Eunice Lake & Tolmie Peak Lookout

Dusk Patrol & Friday Fire Towers: Evening, after work hike to watch the sunset.

  • Moderate
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 5.8 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,300 ft
  • Pace: 1.5-2.5 mph

Meet at 6:15pm ready to go at the trail head. Due to the limited parking, rough road & distance, carpooling is highly encouraged. An additional email will be sent to those registered after sign-up closes to  help facilitate if people are interested.

A national park day pass or America the Beautiful pass is required.

Can only be accessed via Carbon River Entrance.

The road leading to the trail head past Carbonado is rough and unpaved. I recommend a vehicle that is okay on potholes or carpooling with someone who is willing to drive.

There are no bathrooms or water refill at trail head.

Google Maps.

This is a Mt. Rainier NP classic. One of the four towers in the park.

Sunset is predicted to start at 7:30pm that evening, which will be around the time we reach the lookout. To meet this goal, we will take minimal breaks and try to keep a strong pace.

The route can be found on GAIA

Since we will be descending/returning in the dark after sunset, please bring a working light source with extra batteries and a layer for keeping warm as late summer can still be unpredictable for weather near Rainier.

Please self screen if this is an appropriate hike. It is short, but steep with less maintained trail in parts.

It can be very buggy so long sleeves and/or bug spray heavily encouraged.

An additional email with more info will be sent after registration closes. Please check spam if you do not see it.

Please reach out if you have questions.
