Please request leader permission prior to registering, otherwise you will be removed. Let me know if you have done the traverse before, any hikes or backpacking trips of similar distance and elevation gain, what you've been doing for conditioning recently, and any trips you'll be taking prior to this one. Please advise if we have hiked or climbed together, as well! This is not a good first "hard" hike—you should have multiple trips of similar gain/distance under your belt before this.

What I am looking for in participants: I am looking to see that you've done trips of similar distance and gain and have been keeping up with your conditioning from the spring into the summer and that you're willing to spend the night in Leavenworth the night beforehand.

This will be a challenging and very strenuous trip, involving 10-14 hours of active moving time, depending on our pace. When I did it in 2025 through the same route, my watch recorded 20.5 miles and 5.5K feet of elevation gain. Our goal is to be moving uphill at 1.75 to 2.5 MPH, breaking as needed, with a 30 minute break at the top of Aasgard Pass near Isolation Lake. Downhill pace may be faster, depending on what the group agrees on.

More to come over email in late July/early August. Whether we go may depend on the weather and what we agree on as a group. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions about our plan.

We will meet the night before for dinner (time & place TBD) in Leavenworth to answer any last minute questions, coordinate carpooling for the next morning, check our gear, and ensure we have everything we need. Then, we will be starting at 0430 at the Stuart Lake Trailhead and finishing the day out at the Snow Lakes Lake Trailhead, going up Aasgard Pass earlier in our route. Our plan requires two to four vehicles (to drive back to the original starting point with the group), as this trail is a traverse rather than a loop or an out and back trip.

Camping is available in Leavenworth (Eightmile and Icicle Creek Campgrounds) and so is overnight lodging. I prefer that you camp or stay in or near Leavenworth overnight to eliminate the possibility of delaying our 0430 start time.
