9:00 AM at Parking Lot Immediately South of Deception Pass Bridge
Hike amongst stunning scenery on Whidbey and Fidalgo Islands. We will start our day with a beach hike to Cranberry Lake, then gain most of our elevation by climbing to Goose Rock where we will have lunch with spectacular water views. Finally, we will move over to the Fidalgo Island side of the park for some of the best coastline hiking in the Pacific Northwest. This hike will be about eight miles in length with approximately 800 feet of elevation gain. We will be hiking at a moderate pace, which means being able to travel a minimum of three miles per hour on flat terrain. Please do not register for this hike if you cannot hike at this pace. We will be meeting at the parking lot immediately south of the Deception Pass Bridge at 9:00 on Saturday morning. Here are the travel directions: From Seattle, take I-5 North. Once you get past Mount Vernon, start looking for exit 230; this is the exit for Highway 20. You will need to take exit 230 and take a left at the stop light; you will then travel west on Highway 20 for approximately 11 miles. As you approach Anacortes, take a left at the sign for Oak Harbor, Whidbey Island, Deception Pass; you will then travel south on Highway 20 for approximately 6 miles towards Deception Pass. As you go over the Deception Pass bridge, slow down; you will need to take an immediate right into the Deception Pass State Park parking lot at the south end of the bridge.
