Day Hike - Debbie's View via Bullitt Fireplace Trail

Debbie’s View via Bullitt Fireplace Trail, Chybinski Loop and Coal Mine Trails. Rain or shine, hike along the enchanting forested trails of Squak Mountain. If the weather permits, we’ll see Mount Rainier from Debbie’s View. On a grey day, we’ll still enjoy the meandering trails and moss laden forests.

  • Easy/Moderate
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 5.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,100 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 1,730 ft
  • Pace: 1.75 - 2 mph moving pace

Meet at 8am, at Bullitt Fireplace Trailhead, boots on, ready to hike. I have a white Subaru Crosstrek and will pop the trunk. The trailhead is at the hairpin turn on Mountainside Drive.  Gaia calls this Mountainside Drive Trailhead.  Google Maps calls this Squak Mtn, here is the link. https://maps.app.goo.gl/btp4fS9eEVinvas76

Directions: From I-90 (Exit 17) in Issaquah, head south on Front Street through the picturesque old part of town. At the traffic light at Sunset Way, turn right. In 0.2 miles cross SE Newport Way, then bear left onto Mountain Park Blvd SW. This street changes direction abruptly several times. In about 0.7 miles bear left onto Mountainside Dr SW. In about 0.3 miles, where the street makes a very sharp turn to the left, pull into the small parking area on the right. There is room for about six cars at the trailhead, and additional parking is available along the right shoulder of Mountainside Drive.

We will stop for a snack at Debbie’s View for 15 minutes.

On relatively easier hike like this, participants' abilities may vary. If you are a strong hiker and want a greater challenge, may I suggest bringing 3 or 4 extra liters of water?  If you are a newer hiker: 1.75-2 moving pace is roughly a 30 to 34-minute mile, averaged out between faster flats/descents and slower ascents. It is important that participants look at the stated hike description, distance, pace, elevation gain and consider your current fitness level in determining if this walk is a good fit for you. If you have any questions, please contact the trip leader in advance.  A leader may look at your profile and recent activities to ensure that they think you are ready for their hike. They may email or call you to ask you about your hiking history and conditioning activities.

Bring boots with good traction for mud and slippery leaves.  Poles are advised. Will hike if rain.  May cancel if the forecast calls for very strong winds, hard rain, lightning, or snow/ice on roads.
