Break out the wildflower books, binoculars and cameras for this hike through a beautiful canyon in Eastern Washington. Wildflowers begin to bloom here mid- to late- March, and birds are plentiful. (Cowiche Canyon is one of the sites found on the Audubon Society’s Sun & Sage Loop of the Great Washington State Birding Trail.) If the flowers disappoint this year, the geology of Cowiche Canyon will not. The hike through the Canyon and to the uplands is approximately 8 miles roundtrip with approximately 400’ gain. Cowiche Canyon is on the outskirts of Yakima. Meet at Preston P&R; at 7:30 a.m. Leader will provide map. More information about Cowiche Canyon at:
